If anyone is interested, pick up a copy of Claire Hoy's: "Canadians in the Civil War." Its a very good read.

I have not read that one yet, i have read the 4 who went to war. It was a long time ago when i read it but from what i can remember it was a good one as well. There is another book, written by a journalist form canada who traveled the south after the war, the name escapes me. but it would be a good book to find. Polish boy, give us a synopsis about the book you read.

It's an okay book, but alot of the material for it is Tom Brook's info. Hoy attended a talk I gave to a club, notebook in hand and copied some of my material too.

No, no one knows more than Tom, as he has taught me everything that I know. He is clearly the most knowledgable person when it comes to Canadians in the Civil War!!! I don't know what we would do without him and his knowledge.
By the way I love this message board and do hope members will use it. It's a great tool for both learning, staying in touch, and expressing ones thoughts and ideas.

I am a member of the Maritime Civil War Living History Association, with members in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Have been reenacting for many years and also searching for gravesites of veterans for several years, finding about 100 to date. All that I have found I have passed on to SUVCW Graves Registration. One veteran that has been located is Ben Jackson, US Navy. He had enlisted for Lewis Saunders in New York. He lies in a unmarked grave in Lockartville, NS. I want to apply to US Veterans Affairs for a gravestone for him however I can not locate any paperwork with both the Jackson and Saunders name on it. Veterans Affairs will not put the name "Ben Jackson" on the stone without proof. Another member has located a great great grandson and also an unrelated woman who remembers Jackson who will swear a statement that they were the same man. I see that in Tom Brook's "All Men Are Brothers" part 2, he states that Jackson was a substitute for Saunders. I would appreciate some assistance in contacting Mr Brooks to inquire if he had located some proof of Jackson enlisting as Saunders so that we can secure a gravestone for him. Any assistance would be appreciated.
